peer review

As a Cantonese song lover, I always try to learn Cantonese by myself. When I saw this course planning, I realized that If you want to learn something well, you have to learn it systematically. I like the topics. They are pretty much the most important components of learning a language. I believe this course will help learners well. As pod 9 mentioned  in the learning resources, both Mandarin and Cantonese are in in the same language system. So I think maybe this course require learners know Mandarin. And like some of the PAAS courses, instructors give lessons and learning materials in Mandarin. So I am thinking maybe the better way to teach this course is give all the lessons and accessible materials in mixed of Mandarin and Cantonese.

  1. In this video, it just simply requires students to follow the steps. Students can keep the steps with the video or they can just do the work after watching the whole video.
  2. The most efficient way to learn from this video is by taking notes. This video shows students four methods to stabilize whipped cream. It’s a short and easy understanding video. Few notes may help them learn the methods well. Also, students can share the notes with each other to show the different understanding of the video.
  3. After watching this video, the best activity to review the methods in this video is to follow the steps in the video and do the work. In order to share the work online, students will need to meet up by using zoom. The activity will help students to interact with others which means they will know how to provide feedback to people properly.
  4. This video is on YouTube. This website is banned in some special locations. I can find similar videos on websites that are accessible for all locations. And I will make sure that the videos have subitiles.

  1. All the resources that are required for learning easily accessible online. For example, I will make sure every learner can find the PowerPoints and the recorded videos. Online meetings are not required. If some of the learners wish not to attend the meetings. They can use the recorded videos and the PowerPoints to study by themselves.
  2. The first solution that comes to my mind is I will make sure that everyone knows how to use online meeting software and email. Every morning, we will meet online, then everyone will be given their jobs. At the end of the day, people need to hand in their jobs or report work progress by email.
  3. The barriers in my blueprint are learners in different locations and different time zones. For those learners who in different time zones, when the meeting is held, maybe it is the time they need to go to bed. This is easy to solve, the online meetings are not mandatory. Learners can study by themselves by using PowerPoints and recorded videos. And for those learners who are in special locations and their internet is blocked. The solution is VPN.
  4. In my current design, I would say that the resources on the internet can be delivered in a better way. The best solution is to find a website or online software that can access without VPN for those learners who are in special locations.

Experiential learning

To understand the surroundings through practice. In other words, to enable learners to fully participate in the learning process, so that learners really become the leading role in the classroom. The role of the instructor is no longer blindly unilaterally impart knowledge. More importantly, is the use of visual, audible, epic teaching media efforts for students ready to experience prior to the start of the work. Therefore, students will have a kind of impulse, eager to learn voluntarily fully into the learning process, and actively contact language, use the language, learn the language in the process of experience. Any exciting experience in life, such as bungee jumping, being suspended upside down, and leaping through the air, is a thrilling experience that you will never forget. In the same way, experiential learning will also bring new feelings and stimuli to language learners, so as to deepen their memory and understanding.

The teacher is the center of instruction, and the students just need to pay attention and take notes carefully. However, experiential learning requires learners to take the initiative, take the main responsibility for their own learning, and really become the subject of the teaching process. Experiential learning emphasizes the active participation of learners. Without such participation, no experience can be generated. The core of experiential learning is the process, which means the process is the learning itself.

Chinese board game “go”

When I was a young boy, I had interests in everything. I tried to learn how to play guitar, piano, how to dance… One day, I saw my grandfather was playing “go” with his friend. They were so focused like they were the generals, the black and white stones were the soldiers. That white war was last three hours and my grandfather won. After that day, I started my self-learning. In two weeks, I read five books of “go”, and once my grandfather played with others, I would go to see the game, no matter what I was doing. With the interest and the hard-working, my “go” skill was getting better. In the third month of learning “go”, I started playing with my grandfather. After each game, I looked back with him and analyzed the game. Until today, I still cannot win a game from him… “Go” is a very special game, you played more and you will get stronger, it required you to remember every composition you saw. And you can use them in future games.
